"American Individualism" by Herbert Hoover

American Individualism

This is the third book of Herbert Hoover’s that I have read and, as with his other works linked to below, I whole heartedly recommend it to readers.

Herbert Hoover appears to have always defended what he defined as our American social and economic way of life: ​not "pure" capitalism per se', but capitalism with an American touch: "American Individualism."

It is hard to believe that this former President of the United States was classified as a “conservative” in his day as he writes of limiting the stratification of society—its class structures, his disdain of privilege, and that he supported the restraining of either economic or political power if it inherently failed to yield a service to humanity.

This first volume published in 1951 covers the years 1874-1920 in the life of Herbert Hoover: the period from his birth in 1874, through his professional career as a worldwide engineer to the relief and reconstruction of Europe through 1920 after World War I.
