E. H. Chapin’s thoughts and writings from 1866 inspired this article. His words and insights have been modified, enlarged and adapted as the inspirational foundation for these “reincarnated thoughts” on the glorification of lies and their effects on a society in the twenty-first century.

A Reincarnated Thought: "Why Lies Should Never Be Told or Glorified"
Glorifying a lie, legalizing a lie, arming and equipping a lie, consecrating a lie with solemn forms and awful penalties, still makes the lie nothing but a lie.
A glorified lie rots a land and corrupts that land's inhabitants; and eventually, the white, burning light of truth will shine through it and expose it for the lie that it is. Tell a single lie, and it sets in motion many more compounded lies in its defense. One lie may be the spark that explodes a whole magazine of lies upon a community.
Eventually, even a supposedly small lie, if there actually be such a thing, condemns the individual as much as a big, dark, ominous falsehood. One lie told can become a steam engine that pulls in its support a whole freight train of deceitfulness … the evil consequences of which no single individual and no community can limit.

Conversely, speak a kind word and you do not know how far it may reach in its influence. Today and tomorrow speak kind words—words of exaltation, that elevate good, strong, eloquent individuals in rank, power, and prestige, so that their character will be illuminated and exalted for others to acknowledge and follow.
Doggedly pursue righteousness and steer away from lies and deception. Cheers, - Peter E. |

Footnote: A glorified lie is used in this article to describe the lauding, magnifying or extolling of a lie so that it can be repeated by the supporters of the lie and therefore accepted as factual by the less informed, the less knowledgeable, or the more gullible. This is done to legitimize a lie and extend its reach and effectiveness.
