The five-volume set of "The Book of Business" edited by Samuel Crowther.

This is an excellent example of the breadth of industrialists, philosophers and economists that Samuel Crowther accessed as a journalist and editor. Contained in this five-volume set of vignettes of wisdom are some of the most well-known individuals of the 1920s.

​The following is not an all-inclusive list of authors included in this series, and we have purposely omitted those individuals whose biographies are reviewed in the "Famous Industrialists' Biographies by Samuel Crowther."

• Edward Nash Hurley was chairman of the United States Shipping Board, and president of the Emergency Fleet Corporation.
  
  
• Edward A. Filene is the President of William Filene Sons Company of Boston, which was, at the time, the largest specialty store in the United States [link to more information on Edward A. Filene].
  
  
• John Wanamaker, who with Marshall Field, can be credited with the establishment of the modern-day department store [link to more information on John Wanamaker].

• John D. Rockefeller Jr. who was chairman of the Board of the Rockefeller Foundation, a director of the General Education Board, the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, the International Health Board, and the China Medical Board.

• Christian Girl was a preacher, a water carrier, a street sweeper, a milk-wagon driver, a postman, and finally president of the Standard Parts Company of Cleveland, Ohio - a career of note among many of note in this list.

• Charles M. Schwab was an Andrew Carnegie associate and owner and chief executive of the Bethlehem Steel Works.
